If you are asking about some of the decoupage projects here, you can also use printed paper, old pictures or even cloth.
Absolutely! Use a picture or print that you like. I used some of my favorite photos of individual family members. I cut them into ovals and decoupaged them to an empty cigar box. I use it as a small jewelry box and can enjoy the photos each time I use the box!

Decorations it's fun for memory
You can use magazine clippings. Ask people you know for their old magazines. Also napkins can be picked up at Dollar Tree in tons of designs for just a dollar. Photocopies from the internet can be used, too. Wrapping paper, too.
