I'm guessing you may have hard water like I do. I use Oxyclean every load of whites. What I did when I started noticing dingy results before that, I washed them with vinegar to remove the soap residue and then soaked them overnight in hotwater and a scoop of Oxy. Depending on how bad they are, will determine if you have to soak them more than once. Use fresh hot water and Oxy each time and rinse with lukewarm water between. I've also used this method with old linens and it works.

In former days, since bleach doesn’t always whiten, those doing laundry added “bluing” to the wash water. Today, most things are partially or totally synthetic, but 100% cottons can lose brightness, too. You can still buy bluing in some stores. You can try that with a few garments you have already bleached and non-bleached and see if it makes a difference. 😇
This maybe that someone washed them with colored clothes, when they were just gotten, and this stained the whiteness from them. When ever you buy new clothes, soak them in vinegar water, about 1" of vinegar, into a pail of cool water. Let them soak over nite, and this will maintain the colors forever and ever. Other folks will be shocked and ask why yours hold the colors so great. If, the next morn., the water is tinted, empty the water, and do it again, til you get clear water. Best wishes, J.
