You can plant now. I live in the same zone, and we usually plant trees from October-November, or in early March if there's no danger of a freeze/hard frost. It's ideal now, because they have time to develop strong roots before the cold snaps between December and January, without the drying heat of September. Be sure to keep watered if your weather is dry.
