Depending on the location this seems like a good opportunity for a chalk board or an old fence with clothes pins for hanging pictures.
Anything that big deserves a new piece of drywall.

Not sure what mean by a creative way. I just patch them and give them a few coats of paint. But then I want them to blend into the wall and not be noticeable either.
