Sticky remover

I have a hammer that was in a plastic container for several years. In that time the handle is really sticky almost gummy. How can I remove this?

might have to cut that goopy stuff off....clean the hammer And start fresh.
sand paper, sand it back to its original state.
hi, if you are asking about the handle of the hammer (usually rubber or plastic) i would use eucalyptus oil, see how this goes then perhaps some corn starch or then maybe a coat of clear nail polish. if you don't have eucalyptus oil, you could even try the nail polish remover. good luck.
