Sporting a sweater with a large flashing reindeer on it is not exactly my idea of a great fashion choice! But when an invite for an ugly Christmas sweater party arrived in the mail, I had no choice but to scour the racks of a second hand store searching for something 'ugly'. This is how I made that Christmas sweater work for me...as a (warm and comfy) skirt.
Start by laying the sweater on a flat surface and determining where you will cut across it. Do this by grabbing a measuring tape (or a yardstick) to figure out the skirt length you feel comfortable with. Be sure to leave an extra 1-2" for a waist band seam.
Turn sweater inside out and fold down a seam at the waist band. Do this by using the width of the elastic band as your guide.
Sew the waistband, leaving an opening (I like to do this on the side where it won't be as visible) to thread the elastic through. Easiest way to do this is to pin a safety pin on the end of the elastic band and weave it through the waistband seam.
