No! The great thing about decorating is that it is a very personal thing. You should decorate and surround yourself with things that look good (matchy-matchy is so old fashioned and lacks creativity!) and make you happy. What you want to consider is if the hand towels, face towels and bath towels are coordinated in some way - by color, by print (or stripe) or by texture.
No. Design enthusiasts will say yes, but there is no reason that you can't mix colors or patterns. Ex. Black towel , red hand towel, white wash cloth combo in the right room. Mixing wide stripes with tight patterns. Basically it's your house,do what pleased your tastes
