My hubby used old plastic peanut butter jars. He nailed the lids to the ceiling and then filled them up with nuts, bolts, etc and screwed them on. Now he can see what is in each jar before opening them and all those little items are have their own designated area. Now would be a good time to go through what you already have. If you have two of anything sell the extra.
This link will give you tons of ideas. Hope it helps.

Storage is always needed... we have seen some really good ideas in Woodworking magazine, Woodshop magazine etc. They have some great ideas on how to construct benches that will allow for storage and use of multiple small power tools (like routers, chop saws, bench top drill presses, etc... that all interchange on one bench.)
Peg board, floor to ceiling is also a great way to organize... paint it and outline the tools with a large sharpie or paint pen so each tool goes back in it's own spot... and .. there are lots of accessories, like baskets and bins and shelves for pegboard.
My husband placed 1x4 boards, between the studs, high on the garage wall to hold large pipe clamps and bar clamps, accessible but out of the way. And one side of the garage door works for storing plywood sheets. he also created large bin storage units that mounted on the wall for skill saws, saber saws, routers, etc. above the benches. Tall file cabinets can work for storage... a skill saw and blades can go in one drawer, sanders and discs in another. etc.
Tool benches are also great garage storage, Harbor Freight is a great source for those... lots less cost wise.
Start with graph paper, draw the floor plan with all windows and doors... photo copy basic plan (so you don't have to re-draw it every time) Cut out scale, colored templates for your tools and benches and storage units, etc (I used the graph paper to match scale and then colored them with different highlighters) Place the tool templates in the plan, changing it around until you have an arrangement you like, I used a re-position-able glue stick to hold templates in place on the plan. ( color photo copy each new plan, so you can have it to compare plans)
