The tree was started from a sapling. It is about 6 ft now, kind of lankie. Two stronger trunks. Should I trim it first and wait or should I transplant and trim later?

what is your location?Transplanting should only be done a certain times to alleviate trees going into shock.

Northwest NJ. I think we are passed the season for transplanting. Spring is the next opportunity. Should I trim prior to transplanting or wait until after?

I would wait until Spring to transplant, after it blooms. Prune now for more bloom, then again before transplant . Beautiful trees. Enjoy ! For more information :https://www.gardendesign.com/trees/eastern-redbud.html

I would strongly suggest not planting a redbud. They germinate with tens of thousands of seeds which drop and make more trees! They are considered a nuisance tree! I strongly regret ever bringing one into my yard!

Google "trash" and "nuisance" trees before you plant anything. Tomorrow I am paying $7000 to have Silverleaf Maples removed!!! Storm damaged and extremely messy!!!
