Care of hostas

I have a new home. Lots of shade, this I'm not so familiar with. Do i trim hostas back for the winter or not ? Thanks

    no they die down naturally

    The tops will freeze and can be pulled off easily or you can trim the leaves off now.

    I once read that plants (I don't recall that it was specifically about hostas - but it made some sense) reabsorb some nutrition from their leaves for next year as they die back in the fall/winter. I actually put tree leaves over them as mulch in case the winter is hard. After the last risk of frost in the spring I rake all the leaves off or push them around the hostas for mulch and mine have done fine.

    Trim flower stalks down. Leaves will wilt down. Rake in spring and remulch. Separate in early spring to make more plants.

    I cut back my hostas when the leaves die and turn brown, right at ground level..

    I tend to remove all the frost killed dead foliage of peonies and hosta.

    For my location and having mulched flower beds -I feel it helps keep the garden tidy and possibly prevent future disease and insect troubles.

    I let mine alone,have done so for 20 years,they come back great.
