Strip the existing finish using Citristip,if need be lightly sand, clean ,prime and paint,or clean and stain
a couple of things come to mind...replace the center panels of the cabinets with glass, or starch a fabric or contact paper to the center panel. A good dose of paint works wonders.
repaint them. I had a friend once who had decorative painting done on the doors of her cabinets. I took my doors off to maximize space. Then I painted the insides a rich color green and the outsides are white.
how about removing the doors altogether Paint inside a wonderful bright color and maybe a curtain over some openings?
Easiest thing to give them a face lift is to repaint. At the same time take the hardware off and give that a good cleaning. Might consider repainting the inside of the cabinets too. It will make it lighter and easier to find things plus it will look nice and clean too.
