Allow it to dry. Then add a second coat to seal the grit. Before winter hits, apply a coat of paint and traction grit on slippery wood steps. Sand and aluminum oxide grit are cheap, but both require constant stirring
My Dad used a grit tape outside that lasted for years ~ just a thought.

There is some fine-grained paint additive you can use (maybe paint just the tread in the middle where your foot would hit). There's also some adhesive no-slip strips you can put down (I don't know much about them but U-Line has a lot of options if you look up Anti-Slip tape).
Stair threads
They sell strips with adhesive backs that are like sand paper. Sell in hardware stores / Home Depot.
