Hello Diana! The entryway does not necessarily have to be lighter. Of course, if your entryway is tiny, lighter is better. But if not too small, a darker color can certainly make an impact. Click on the link and scroll through some of the photos of entryways.

i don't think there is a sEt in stone rule but if it's naturally a dark area, light paint will do wonders. Bottom line, it is a matter of choice.
