How do i make my brick kitchen floor look new and updated?

I love my brick flooring in my kitchen and laundry room, but it needs to be redone. It's hard to clean because of the many recessed places. I would like to make it look more modern if possible, but if nothing else,it needs a good cleaning and some kind of finish to make it shiny and fill in the recess's so dirt doesn't get trapped in them. Does anyone have any ideas?
