the ones I see have the metal at the top, they look really cute and fairly easy to paint
Hi Jewel, I have search and searched, specifically using CFL spiral light bulb craft and I didn't find much. It might be because not a lot of people have purchased them, or because not a lot of them have burned out, or because people aren't using them due to the mercury. They are supposed to be disposed of as a toxic substance. I did find a cute angel, but the directions were taken down. Here's the picture though.

You could also use the spiral as a skirt and make other types of lady decorations. But please be careful. Mercury is toxic and you don't want to break or tamper with the bulb, including breaking off the top. As much as we all like to recycle, I personally think it's better to dispose of these as hazardous waste.

If you want to do it anyway, please be careful about children or animals in your house who could knock them down so they would break.
Well, I’m glad it’s not just me. Thanks for telling me why they are not popular anymore. I have not liked them from the start. I might make one and hand it high, but then I have to worry future years. I think I’ll just put them in the box with the burned out fluorescents. We can only dispose of hazardous wastes 4 days a year, and I missed the last two. Happy Tday. 😇
How about painting the bulb like a reindeer and the corkscrew can be the antlers?
Or use the bulbs for the baskets
