Here are some housecleaning tips:

Organize and get rid of clutter!! Once you do that start with one room at a time and work your way around the room and to the doo to avoid missing spots. Once all is cleaned and organized sit back and relax! Cleaning will be much easier from here on out. I am been in many houses and they have so much clutter sittin and and there that you just clean around it and that is not cleaning. I have also noticed people will have junk sitting around that they never use and never will and instead of boxing it up and storing it in an attic or shed they just clean around. Then keep stacking it up. My advise is if you dont need it get rid of it! Or at least store it out of people's view.
I found that it is good to start with a clean slate. So pressure wash the house, let it dry for a day or two and that should be all you need to clean the house. Of course there might be some touch up painting that is needed.
In all cleaning, remember to clean top to bottom and back to front. I also start at the door to a room and work clockwise around the room. I agree that decluttering first is major! You don't have to handle things twice and once all the detritus is removed your way is clear to actually clean.
All good advice!
I also recommend avoiding strong chemicals whenever possible. Microfibre cloths and a bit of water work wonders. I also make a spray with homemade citrus vinegar (let citrus peels sit in a jar of white vinegar for 2 weeks) and a squirt of dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle. If I don't have any citrus vinegar, I use 1/2 vinegar, 1/2 cheap bottled lemon juice. Avoid using on materials adversely affected by acids.
My favourite window cleaner is a very liquidy solution of cornstarch mixed with water.
I also think the right mind set is extremely helpful. If you think of it as "loving on your home" rather than work, it is much easier to enjoy the task because you are doing it for YOU. Go forth and conquer.
When keeping house, I think about my family's basic needs, food, clothing, shelter and transportation, and then the chores associated with providing for those needs, for example, food: shop for food, store food, prepare food, serve food, clean up after. So food includes washing dishes, tidying the kitchen and taking out garbage. Clothes includes doing laundry, ironing (not if I don't have to!) and mending. For shelter, that means clearing away dirt. Start at the top, and clean the dirt and clutter from horizontal surfaces. IF you have time for all that...otherwise, keep your floors, tables, and counters clean. Most dirt and clutter settles there anyway, and if they are clean, it "seems" that your whole house is clean! And make sure that you pay attention to your vehicle- regular maintenance and weekly visits to the carwash can extend it's life for a very long time!
