Layer by Layer in the Kitchen

Easy
I have this space in the kitchen by the utility room door. I moved in an old cheap bookcase which I intend to completely make over—but not now. I use it for many of my small appliances.
The plain narrow wall
My kitchen has been going country piece by piece, slowly, but it is gaining momentum. I moved the gallon water jug I kept on top of this “cabinet” this summer, and a basket that was a catch-all. Then I saw it! A space to decorate!

Welcome Home!
This little lady welcomed me at the back doo for 12 years as I have come and gone through the garage. But don’t go as much as I used to. I figured she would be a good start for my little decorating project.

Cute sign from my sisters
The blue sign says, Friends welcome anytime; Relatives by appointment! My sisters are so funny.

Hand-me-down canisters
My daughter-in-law’s mother gave me these canisters, along with some matching mugs, not long ago. They have been on the island, but didn’t like them there. When I set them on this cabinet, I knew they were home, for now. The mugs are in the garden window, but they are not home yet.

More transplants
I pulled in a couple of yard decorations-a bug and a bird. A silk flower that hadn’t found another home was adopted here.

The whole truth
And here it is—for now. I really want to do more with the bookcase turned cabinet. To the left, on the utility room (laundry) door, is my apron collection. I have vintage from my family, some from travels, and some other homemade and purchased aprons. That’s a project to come—but not now!
