roundup is never safe to use

Round-Up is a toxic chemical and must be used safely. If you have children or pets, I would not recommend using it. It can also remain in the soil for a longer period of time and contaminate garden foods. PS: Round Up Corp/Manufacturers say that it is safe to use on vegetable gardens, lawns, etc. Do an online research for yourself before using. It has been in lawsuits over the years because of allegations that it is carcinogenic.)
Sometimes burning off garden weeds coverage will help kill off aggravating weeds. Not sure if this an option for you.
There is also the vinegar/salt/water mixture that some use to kill weeds. Not sure if this would work with the weed you are talking about, but would be worth a try.
Why use an expensive chemical when you can use economical white vinegar?
