Can I paint my popcorn ceiling?

Slate will chip with agr, but wouldn't try it, maybe use concrete stain or garage apoxy paint. Ask at your lowes or home depot
Here's an article that says that you can if you seal it. Other articles say no because "1) Slate is not as porous as other concrete or natural stone products. This makes it difficult to get the paint to adhere to the slate.

You can do it, but I definitely recommend apply a good sealer on top.
Is there any way to save the slate floors? Strip and refinish? Do you know how expensive real slate is?
