In the spring I plant Mexican heather And vinca. They are very very drought tolerant. the heather has beautiful little purple blooms on it all through spring, summer and fall until the first hard freeze and then they die. Vinca come in several different colors. I actually have some that come up voluntarily the next spring.
If you are not a green thumb like myself, i mix & make plastic plants from cheap 2 dollar shops~ & they are cheap... Find ‘things’ that look like pots & spray them your favorite colours, use all different sizes(you would be suprised with what gets thrown away)... using cardboard & cement, place rolled/crushed/ripped up cardboard in the bases of Big container pots & add some plastic bags from supermarket,& cover with cement( i add green dye to my cement as it makes it look just so much better,& of coarse the weight is at the top therefore not being heavy no matter how big one might want to go),& of coarse add your plant arrangements in. This idea looks fantastic & does not require a tonne of work nor will it cost a fortune//& No real watering, & to maintain, a hose down occassionally~ even better one can re-arrange pots at any time to create changes... The imagination can take you far if one wishes for it~ all have creative spirit. And if one wishes to go further using vines on fences, these can be easily attached using a simple standard staple gun...
So much fun can be done; even making your own New plants so others will want them..& did i say its cheap cheap cheap:)
