Hibiscus plants can be lightly pruned in late summer or early fall, but no hibiscus pruning should be done during late fall or winter.
you can cut a hardy hibiscus down to the ground in the late fall. It will come back again in the spring when it gets warm.
These are tropical plants. Where are you keeping your hibiscus in NJ?
Got it. Never heard a Rose of Sharon referred to as a hibiscus but flowers are similar.
