Start by changing your "yellow" light bulbs to DAYLIGHT LED bulbs. (Wal-Mart) They make everything bright white, like you just painted it!
First remove all hardware. Put hardware into soak while you paint. Sand cabinets, wipe clean and let dry completely, prime, paint and clean up runs.
Use acrylic latex paint. Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roug. hen the surface for paint. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123. Then paint with your color. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.
I would wash them with vinegar water, and then let them dry. After a day or so, check them, to be sure they are totally dry, and select your color of paint. Some folks like a antique white, or Flat white, we always love a white, for it looks so clean, and also a glossy white, for this will shine, and look so much cleaner, than a flat white. After this, you can get, or make some cheerful curtains, and then you can change the pattern, per season, just to keep it cheerful. Best wishes, J.
