what style of decor do you have for your house? Keep to the same style for your tree.
What do you have to work with? I put the the lights on first then the ornaments. I stand back to make sure the ornaments are evenly spaced.

There are so many possibilities. If you have collected ornaments over the years, you can decorate with those, or you could choose a themed tree, or a color. First decide if you want white lights or colored. I've also see specialty lights. Take a walk down the holiday aisles at a local store for some inspiration!
Start at the top of the tree and wind your way around the tree with your lights. When you run out of that string of lights, attach another string and keep going, space your strings of lights, so the whole tree is covered. You can also decorate the tree from top to bottom by running your lights straight down the tree, adhere to a branch at the bottom and continue to run the lights up, attach at a top branch and continue the up and down stringing until the whole tree is covered. Attach your ornaments of choice. And remember to put a topper on top of your tree, your choice, like an angel, a star or a pointed spire. Have an enjoyable holiday admiring your decorated tree!
