I would build them their own coop / pen and top with chicken wire so they can't get out and predators can't get in. Or build them a coop with a chunnel.

Chickens... are not very bright.. some are downright stupid.... something appetizing looking. across the road.... and there they go... and where one goes... they AALLL go. I would recommend a fence... and if you are concerned about not blocking your view.. a wire field or farm fence ( get small-ish holes) should work... you can also clip their wings to keep them from flying over. Corral gates with the wire attached should work and be relatively inexpensive..
They need their own space. A coop or chicken tractor. Goggle chicken tractor and there a tons of coop ideas there too.
The same reason the bear went over the mountain...... to see the other side, which probably wasn't any greener but he wasn't smart enough to understand that. Lol!
HA-HA! The tale of the "hen that got away!" -- KEEP THEM FENCED IN!!! That's the only way to keep them off the road. I had an aunt who had a chicken yard ... that chicken wire fencing kept her little birds far from the highwy (yes, she too lived on a busy one!) You can only be "free range" to a certain extent. You want to preserve their lives, naturally!
They seem to know where they're headed. I see the people in the background are going in the same direction. Bet there was a party goin' on. Guess you weren't invited...
My Grandmother used to clip their wings, so they could not fly over fence.
Make a fence out of, guess what, chicken wire. Hence, the name. I'm sure there are plenty of simple solutions if you ask everyone's friend, Google.
Having had chickens, you need to make a fenced chicken yard with a roof as they can fly over just a fence. You can make a movable chicken house. There are lots of ideas online.
