Have original icky yellow French provincial cabinet. Put 2 coats of KillZ (SP) (water-based) & then 2 coats of color in water-based satin latex. It looked beautiful! Then, added a coat of Minwax Polycrylic water-based clear matte. UGH. It came out cloudy & streaky. Read somewhere to do it again. So I did. Double UGH. It looked horrible. Then I sanded it, not that good because it's the curvy wood and paint underneath chipped off at places. Now I have a mess. What can a girl do??? Appreciate ALL your assistance. Thanks!

PS: Doing it in my garage & yes, it is very cold inside.

Use a good paint remover...take it all the way down to bare wood. Carefully sand and use a Spray primer and Spray paint and Spray sealer... you will get a more even finish... if you don't want to try and spray it yourself ... there are furniture refinishers or even auto painters that will do it for you.

Check the directions on the products you are using. Most have temperature limits, both heat and cold.

Use paint remover and let stand for 5 minutes. Use a putty knife and remove the poly. Wipe immediately and you might get lucky and save the painted surface. Warm up your garage before you try again. Need to lightly sand between coats and use a tack cloth to clean off. Then another thin coat. Poly cannot be applied thick like paint.

temperature could definitely be a factor. Also polyacrylic is really hard to work with. A high quality brush is a must. Always keeping the leading edge wet is essential. I'd suggest if you do it over again (after stripping it) to not use the polyacrylic, it will be fine with just the satin latex. Note that paint becomes more durable as it cures. Sure it's dry in an hour, but all paint requires a few weeks before it's scratch resistant. Really don't need the polyacrylic.
