About 3- 5 months in a sealed container. 6-8 months with fuel stabilizer added. Recommended maximum storage 1 year. The API (American Petroleum Institute http://www.api.org/) recommends that gas is not stored for more than two years in an approved container without fuel stabilizer.
It can stay stable for as long as 18 months, but if it smells different than the gas you're now using in the family car, or it's dark in color, it's gone bad. Dispose of it properly and don't dump. It doesn't last as long as it used to because of all the refinement than's now done to it.
Gas will not stay for two years with stabilizer.Usually one year at its best
It is now recommended that you keep gas for less than a year. I add "Seafoam" additive to mine and it helps to keep carbs clean as well as extend the life of the gasoline. Also depends on where you store your gas. If it is hot weather maybe not so long. I would buy some fresh to be sure.
