Are you redoing your rooms as an empty nester? Or did the kids move back home and need their rooms updated as they are now adults?
Stick to classic neutrals like grays and taupes, in light or the mid-tone range. Add colour through bedding, curtains, rugs or accessories. Avoid anything kitschy or themed. They will be able to add their own touch, and when they move out, you won't have to re-do it again.
I did mine in a pretty gray on 3 walls, and a darker shade behind the headboard. The bedding and some of the furniture also had white in it. Lime green (the favourite colour du jour) was used as an accent colour for storage cubes and accessories.
