I would love any/all ideas on how to make my backyard beautiful. I have a pretty big backyard but it slopes down and Ya...NO trees. This was one of my worst regrets of buying this house. Please help!

I've transplanted quite a few tree seedlings, best to do that in the cold months while they're dormant. Started a number of plants with cuttings too.

Landscaping ideas for a backyard..... hmmmm let me think......Why not create outdoor rooms or spaces to sit and talk or relax outside? A patio with a babbling brook that drops (so said you have a slope) into a goldfish or koi pond from a waterfall. Next you can add some plantings around the pond and edges of the property to provide seasonal interest as well as privacy. To extend your enjoyment time of your backyard gardens, why not add LED landscqpe lighting? This summer you can be barbecuing for your friends and family enjoying the soothing sounds of the waterfalls and watching the fish swim around. The frogs will come once they hear the water and you can plant flowers to attract butterflies. Add a fire pit for those colder nights and create another room for gathering. Here in Rochester NY it can get cold and the warmth of a fire pit can be very enticing.

You have to start by thinking about what you want from your back yard. A patio? A space to grow vegetables? A fire pit? A pond? Then take pencil and paper in hand and start sketching ideas. Terracing can help deal with slopes. What you want from your space will dictate the placement of trees. Just make sure you do it in steps or it will overwhelm you. Everything in my back yard, I planted myself. It's kinda nice to have a clean slate to work with. I am sure you won't have any problems with neighbors/coworkers who need to thin out their supply, so you should have some free plants to work with.

Pets? Kids? Suggestion...get any trees you want in ASAP. Then make rooms for different uses. You may want only a small space for cooking out and enjoying friends. Or you might want a beautiful sloping lawn to look out on from our fantastic deck. You will be limited only by your age and abilities and budget. If a stunning yard is your desire, built it like a house...a room at a time.

Get some trees that will fill out and grow quickly, such as Bradford Pears, or forsythia bushes.
