A Stair Case Make Over That Was Easy

The stair case in my Idaho home was a disaster when I purchased the house. Blue and purple stripes turned in to a beautiful "oak" look when I was finished. It was so easy!
Yes, I pulled up the carpet and there they were...blue and purple stairs! ICK! They screamed for help!
I first painted the stairs with streaks of light and darker brown, blending them together so that only hints of the variation remained. I then used a fan brush to create dark brown graining lines over each stair.
Creating knot holes was easy and fun. Simply draw lines with your brush in an oval fashion.
I blended the graining just slightly with a dry chip brush
Two coats of varnish to protect the finish and I was done! I was pleased with the final look of the stairs. What a huge difference!
