what to do with an old hall tree

I want to paint this piece and make it happy! I am very much a novice so I need your help. The room is dusty rose and dusty pink...at least that is what I call it.

so I am new to redoing anything unless it is just to slap paint on it and put it outside. This will not go outside!!! What do ya'll think about a lavender or purple? Where do I find this paint?

Im not sure about purple and pink together, but try it. Whats the worse that can happen? You either love it and if you dont, you can repaint it ;)

Is this an antique piece? Would be a shame to paint if it is. It would lose it's value if painted. If not I agree with Kenny24.

It probably is Cathy it was my Aunts and she would be in her mid 90's ...my daughter is not interested in it and I like the piece just tired of dark browns and need to brighten uup our home a bit! Thank you
