Painting kitchen cupboards

by Debbie
I am in the process of painting my kitchen cupboards and I am undecided on the color - white or cream. They are currently an oak finish, I have done all the cleaning and sanding now I need to start painting. Any suggestions?

Depends on what look you are going for. What style do you prefer?? If you want a clean contemporary look, I'd go for the white, but if you are wanting a french country look, I'd go with the cream with a glaze stain. First picture is contemporary, second is French country.

Yep, it's mostly about personal preference. For me, I'm a fan of light, bright, clean, pure white. I don't care for off white, or any kind of glaze that makes the cabinets look old or aged. Glazing just looks like dirt in the corners to me. Of the two examples Donna offered, the first kitchen appeals to me (except I even prefer white appliances over stainless). The cabinets in the second kitchen would drive my neat freak tendencies crazy! ;)

It si your preference..me, I do not like the white. I find it without character or life. But then I love color..and how color affects people. What ever you decide, good luck and happy cooking.

wow, right before I read this question I turned around and looked at my newly painted cabinets and thought to myself "wow, I really LOVE my white cabinets". I was stuck on this question for over a year, I used BM white untinted oil based paint that I sprayed on with a Wagner sprayer from the hardware store. I have 4 kids and 3 pets, I was worried that it would be hard to keep clean but it is not at all, a light wipe every now and then when I see a spot and it is back to brand new. My kitchen is so bright, I am very happy with my decision and I wish it didn't take me so long to decide. Now I am probably going to spend another 6 months trying to decide on a backsplash. :-)
