I Really Need Some Advice

I posted this old throw away bakers hutch a while back. ( It was out front of goodwill ready to go to the dump) It was in horrible shape, so I offered 3 bucks. Anyway, it is all stripped except I left the back original, it is solid cedar. The bottom section under the table top is missing drawers. I would love any and all input as to what color I should paint it. Its all original except the table top ( which was plywood), We bought a nice piece of solid cedar for the new top. Im selling it, but to whom, I have no idea. Any ideas on the missing 4 drawers under the table top along with a perfect color would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! The wood for the new table top was 28 bucks.

To me, @Patricia W, this piece should be a lovely, Butter Yellow. I would put a piece of plywood along the bottom where the drawers once were, and use it to store rolling pins and cookie cutters and then advertise this as a country baking center for rolling out pie crusts or cookies. I envision storing large enamel or ceramic containers of flour, sugar, etc., behind the glass doors. If you want to take it a step further, I would sew a yellow and white gingham check ruffle (about six inches in length to cover the openings where the drawers were) and attach it with Velcro strips for easy access to the storage area and so it could be removed for laundering when necessary. What do you think of that idea?

@Denise I have decided on "Downey" by Behr. A very creamy pale butter color! After I do the entire piece I will decide on another accent color and hardware:] need to look at it first:} Thank you for your advice!

If you've already stipped it, and the wood is pretty, why not stain it. Like Denise's idea of putting a piece of wood where the drawers were for storage.

@Marion Nesbitt It had so many dings and dents that I needed to buy more wood filler! I dont think a stain would cover all of my repairs!

I like the idea of butter yellow, but maybe stain that new cedar section you added. (I recently read that cedar takes stains differently than other woods do. Darker. Oh and be sure to use a wood conditioner.) Then install wood in the drawers and perhaps use baskets. We had a Hoosier cabinet once that was white with red trim, which could be another possibility. Have fun with it and good luck!

I would avoid staining mixed woods. I am betting color would pull it together, but I would tend towards something a bit darker or more intense than a pale yellow. Is this a keeper or do you plan to resell it?

If you live with it for awhile the color will come to you. I know that sounds silly but you will start seeing the color you think will be right. It will always come back to that one certain color. Or this works for me!

you are in a pickle lol i think selecting colors is one of the hardest aspects of furniture renewal...get some paint chips in different colors and lay on the table every time you walk by one or two colors will catch your eye xx

Dear @Patricia W, So glad you found something in a "yellow." Perhaps once you get it painted, you can post again and we can have more fun with it. Good luck. I'm sure the final product will be lovely. :)
