I Really Need Some Advice

Denise on Apr 03, 2014To me, @Patricia W, this piece should be a lovely, Butter Yellow. I would put a piece of plywood along the bottom where the drawers once were, and use it to store rolling pins and cookie cutters and then advertise this as a country baking center for rolling out pie crusts or cookies. I envision storing large enamel or ceramic containers of flour, sugar, etc., behind the glass doors. If you want to take it a step further, I would sew a yellow and white gingham check ruffle (about six inches in length to cover the openings where the drawers were) and attach it with Velcro strips for easy access to the storage area and so it could be removed for laundering when necessary. What do you think of that idea?Helpful Reply

Marion Nesbitt on Apr 04, 2014If you've already stipped it, and the wood is pretty, why not stain it. Like Denise's idea of putting a piece of wood where the drawers were for storage.Helpful Reply

Lisa on Apr 04, 2014I like the idea of butter yellow, but maybe stain that new cedar section you added. (I recently read that cedar takes stains differently than other woods do. Darker. Oh and be sure to use a wood conditioner.) Then install wood in the drawers and perhaps use baskets. We had a Hoosier cabinet once that was white with red trim, which could be another possibility. Have fun with it and good luck!Helpful Reply

Lori J on Apr 04, 2014I would avoid staining mixed woods. I am betting color would pull it together, but I would tend towards something a bit darker or more intense than a pale yellow. Is this a keeper or do you plan to resell it?Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Apr 04, 2014If you live with it for awhile the color will come to you. I know that sounds silly but you will start seeing the color you think will be right. It will always come back to that one certain color. Or this works for me!Helpful Reply
