Unique Succulent Planters

Drought Smart Plants

You might be lucky enough to have some vintage blue granite ware, but often the bottoms have rusted out - that's perfect, now you have drainage holes in the container - plant some succulents...
The most important requirement that succulents have, whether they're the hardy hens and chicks or stonecrop or the more exotic kinds of tender succulents is good drainage.
Thrift store finds like old chafing dishes, pots and pans, or virtually anything that will hold some soil can be used for planting into.
Lava rock has good drainage, due to the pores and tiny holes created by the volcanic activity.
Think outside the box; if you are crafty, you can come up with some of the most amazing kinds of planters for succulents. These clasping hands are made out of surgical gloves filled with hypertufa mix.
Using these snail shells collected from a beach long ago was a stroke of genius - for short term use.
Holes from being used for target practice make this pan perfect for planting with succulents - and the hole in the end of the handle is ideal for hanging this on a fence or wall.
