I found this at a junk store for $4, it's a beautiful piece, in pristine condition. Has no identification marks or stamps on it. Does anyone have any idea of the origin? I can post more pictures if needed.

Don't know, but my partner buys a lot and usually searches and finds equivalent on eBay with various prices.

Thanks..I never think to look there, but I will. In my experience, the things I like never turn out to be worth too much than what I paid for them. I buy for me, not for investment or resale. This is just a very unusual piece that got my curiosity up.
  • Can you give a little more info about the piece? It's a little difficult to get a good idea from the photo. Is it thick/heavy glass? Is the inner color different from the outside? Is it bowl shaped or flat? From what I can tell from the pic, it looks like the inside may be gold? If so, it may be Italian art glass from the Seguso family?

@Lynn Scapatici Couch Myers Thanks so much Lynn. I'll keep everyone posted on what I find out when I visit the glass makers. The piece I have, seems to have random bubble patterns, so it's Pulegoso and the Cranberry piece I found on ebay looks to be Bullicante.

Love the belt cushion... I have two very heavy, large blown glass bowls. I have no idea who created them. They were gifts from my husband that he got at different auctions. One is a lovely sea green, the other a cobalt blue. There is something about this bowl that reminds me of those I have.

@Terra Gazelle Thanks! That is a little footstool I covered in belts. Saw similar ones at a art gallery for $250, that one stool and belts cost me about $20. It was fun to do.

It kind of looks like a glass piece from the 1960's, but it is hard to tell from the picture, does it have like almost a mother of pearl look to it?

It's more like a bubble glass look...I'm not too great of a photographer....when you hold it to the light you can see lots of bubbles in it. It's very heavy. The closest thing I've found was a Murano piece, different color and shape, but had the darker rim and the bubbles.

I know nothing about glass, but I got into 1950s/1960s ashtrays about 10 years ago, ceramic and it looks like that may be what it was intended for? Because it looks so shallow.

@Julie Sims It very might be, but fortunately, no one in my house smokes and it's so pretty I couldn't imagine putting cigarettes out in it. I'm just going to use it on the coffee table for now. Thank you!

Oh gosh I sure do know that! Some of the ceramic pieces I had back then, I was appalled that they were ever used as an ashtray!!! Have fun! A great conversation piece none the less!

I have looked on Google , and from what I saw, it looks like it could be petrified wood that has been polished...just saying.
