Think we'll get some fabulous new bird neighbors with our copper-roof birdhouse? I dressed up a plain craft wood birdhouse with some paint and metal accents!
The roof was stamped with a heart metal stamp and I even added a "welcome" plaque at the front door.
To prep my metal, I stamped my message on the plaque, and measured and cut my copper sheet for the roof tiles with tin snips. (If you want more detail about stamping, I have way more info than what fits in a photo caption on my blog about it. Just click the link at the bottom of the post.)
Next, I marked off straight lines with tape and used my heart design stamp for an all-over pattern! I hammered the edge of the copper to straighten it and dull the sharp edges. Then, I brushed on some black acrylic paint to darken the hearts, and wiped off the excess.
Then, I gave it a final polish, punched some holes, and nailed it on with little brass tacks.
It's got a place in the tree right out our living room window! We're thinking spring here - I hope we get some bird neighbors soon!
Enjoyed the project?
