painting in my kitchen cabinets

I live in a manufactured home and I would really love to paint my kitchen cabinets. Is there a process that I need to do first? I would love to redo may counter tops also but I think I will start with cabinets.

I have a mhome too. The doors are wood, but the edges on the fronts are some kind of wood vinyl. Took doors and hardware down, spray painted the doors white and used a hammered copper spray paint on hardware. Used a "sanding sealer" from Lowes on the vinyl parts of the cabinets - let dry 24 hrs - and used one of those tiny foam rollers and painted with a high gloss latex. I think they look like the ones in magazines, and so far they are holding up great! Just give lots of time for extra drying time, this is important!

We've painted the cabinets in two camping trailers. I would definitely recommend painting with a primer/sealer first. We used Kilz, two coats, before using a semigloss paint and primer in one, also 2 coats. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly between coats. This is important, as on the first trailer we didn't do that and the doors would stick. Live and learn, the second trailer we took our time and no sticking. Have fun! It is definitely worth the work!

I forgot to mention- make sure you wash the cabinets well, preferably with a degreaser, before beginning. (It's the little things that make a difference.)
