Can a person paint formica cabinets?

Sheila Haines on Apr 10, 2014yes! sand the laminate (Formica is a brand name for laminate) until the surface is scratched up, primer will adhere better, I primed with Kills, 2 coats smooth 3" roller, then 2 coats of your final paint with same type of roller, in satin enamel, lightly sand between coatsHelpful Reply

Cher @ Designs By Studio C on Apr 10, 2014I've painted mine before and used a shellac-based primer before painting. The paint adhered perfectly with no lifting or scratching. The only thing I didn't like was the texture that the foam roller left behind. There is a product by Rust-Oleum - Countertop Transformations - that I hear works really well! Wanda sinnema on Apr 10, 2014Yes you can,,,the trick is the primer and to rough it up with a bit of sanding prior.... i did it years ago can't remember what i used,,but i'm sure there are much newer items on the market..Helpful Reply

Moxie on Apr 10, 2014Yup. Lightly sand, Zinnser primer x 2 coats, paint x 2 coats (reg laytex wall paint) then min 3 coats or poly sealer (the kind they use for wood floors high traffic in crystal clear)Helpful Reply
