Mushroom Question

Is there anyone out there that knows about mushrooms? First let me say I know not to pick and even consider eating a mushroom that has not been identified in person by a pro. That said can anyone tell me what these may be? They've been sprouting up all over my mom's yard in the last couple of weeks. She too knows not to eat them but the curiosity is getting to her and she's found no one in here garden club that has that kind of knowldege. So, inquiring minds want to know.

the bottom looks like portobello mushroom but I guess it is too thin overall. Have you seen any young ones? These look mature.

Thats what I thought, about both the portobello idea and the mature idea but small ones look the same. I've not seen any that have the traditional domed mushroom shape.

I suspect that is the common lawn fungus Panaeolus foenisecii. There are photos of some other common lawn fungi here: http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn74100.html

There is a community of mushroom hunters / lovers on Google + that includes some experts. If you are interested in learning about this and other mushrooms go to https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/110668290388730805169

I love to hunt and eat mushroom. Only morels and the tall "horse neck" kind. What you are showing, I would advise to not eat. There is a white fungi that comes up in lawns that a friend eats, but I have never done so. Winter here has been harsh. Spring is so late so the mushrooms aren't up here in Indiana. They may be in the southern part of the State. Love 'em!!!
