Adrianne C on Apr 13, 2014You could patch the face of the drawer with bondo, the top looks like you might have to remove the veneer completely.Helpful Reply

Cher @ Designs By Studio C on Apr 13, 2014For the top, a few boards or a piece of plywood with solid wood edges would look nice. A router can be used to cut a decorative edge.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Apr 14, 2014I Dunhams Wood Putty and I would remove the veneer from the top. It looks pretty damaged. Or remove most of it and use the wood putty to fill in. There is a real nice tutorial on Hometalk that I also use. http://atozcustomcreations.net/how-to-repair-damaged-veneer/. She gives wonderful advice! I also have used several other wood worker sights. Hope this helps.Helpful Reply

Judy Parkey on Apr 16, 2014Thanks for posting this question. I have a dresser I need to fix. I'm ashamed to say it but...the veneer wasn't tooooo bad. I think I could have sealed it with wood filler but, no...I tried to remove it and created more of a mess. I'll study these tutorials.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Apr 18, 2014Judy when I strip off veneer I use a heat gun. And a five and one tool. Veneer is put in with contact adhesive and when you heat it you re-activate it. Makes it easy to strip. I am careful because they get hot. I start in the biggest chipped area and warm it up. The veneer comes right off I try not to gauge the top with the 5-1 tool.Helpful Reply

Adrianne C on Apr 19, 2014If the veneer is coming up, but not broken, you can reglue it. I've used super glue to glue it back down.Helpful Reply

DeLaney on Apr 20, 2014Go to a regular woodworking shop. They sell veneers that you can either replace the veneer or just patch it in if you are really good and extremely patient. Bondo and wood filler are fine if you are just going to paint it, but if you really love the wood, go veneer.Helpful Reply

Julie Benson-Grant on Apr 27, 2014I don't know if anyone else does this, but I occasionally pick up pieces that have damage just to salvage the veneer. This enables you to replace missing pieces with age-like veneer. I can cut pieces to fit and use very little wood filler to make the perfect repair. It definitely takes some effort and is really only realistic for small areas of missing veneer but it can be especially rewarding to save a piece. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Theresa Last on Jan 20, 2015Ida, the top on your chest is severely damaged. I have one very similar style, (Duncan Phyfe ? ), but is mostly just scratched. Not only is your veneer damaged, but it's underlying support sheet (thin plywood ?) is too warped to warm up and reflatten ! Your top I would completely replace w thin plywood, topping it w the correct adhesive and a thin sheet of veneer, new or salvaged from a different item. Be sure to have enough veneer to patch the front of the damaged drawer. Follow up w sanding whole chest and then matching stain. Seal w similar finish.Helpful Reply
