Mosquitoes
baits for everything ( ants etc) but I feel sure they are breeding in my bromeliads. What can I do?

Adrianne C on Apr 13, 2014They breed in anything that holds water, and can lay dormant for months until the next rain. They can travel for miles from where they bred too. Best is to eliminate any standing water, mulch leaves, they can breed in those too. We have a mosquito control that comes around periodically and sprays for them. There are some repellent plants that would help some, but without spraying, it's difficult. Bats and some birds eat them too. Here are some articles that may help. http://adriannewalline.blogspot.com/2014/03/mosquito-repellent-plants.html http://adriannewalline.blogspot.com/2014/02/homemade-mosquito-trap.html http://mosquito.ifas.ufl.edu/Florida_Mosquito_Control.htmHelpful Reply

Valerie on Apr 13, 2014I believe that a drop of cooking oil, applied every about twenty days, will do the trick. Another option is to 'flush' the cavities with water, so as to interrupt the breeding cycle of the mosquitoes. You could also approach your local pet shop (or supplier that deals with fish bonds in the garden) to find out what they have available.Helpful Reply

Adrianne C on Apr 13, 2014Our mosquito control provides pellets that they put in fish ponds, or other standing water. They sell them at various stores as well.Helpful Reply

Sandra Ross on Apr 14, 2014There are pestcontrol company's that have a special spray that causes them to stick to when they are at rest. it worked well for us. That and a few other things already listed. GLuck. I live in south fl. If your problem is that bad do what we did, get one of those machines that produce carbon monoxide thats been the best cure yet. and the safestHelpful Reply

Patricia Mcivor on Apr 15, 2014@Sandra Ross Will have to investigate that one Sandra. Just heard on news council is going to spray marshes nearby over Easter weekend. Obviously wasn't only me complaining. Poor things don't want to work over Easter. Double time and a half pay? I'll do it.Helpful Reply
