@Dianne I always use a flat latex paint. This specific paint is Glidden Swiss Coffee. To make the chalk paint, I used "Chalk Paint Additive" ordered on Amazon. I only make enough chalk paint needed for each project. This was a small project that required very little paint and additive. I'm not a measurer, I'm a "dumper" and "eyeballer". :) The additive comes in 2 cup quantities, enough for one gallon of paint. For this project, I maybe used 1/2 teaspoon. You just have to experiment. If you add too much and your paint is too thick, just add a bit of warm water. Stir well until the clumps dissolve. Hope this helps.
