Laminated counter tops.

Wendy Willey on Apr 15, 2014A picture would help, but try to keep the counters as free of clutter as possible and brighten up the kitchen with bold colorful items on the counters (Red, Cobalt Blue, etc). The bold and bright colors will draw peoples eyes to see the items and not the counters. (Less is more when dealing with an eye sore.)Helpful Reply

LaJean Dowty on Apr 15, 2014I know of no product that you could apply to them that would be removable when you move...I"m afraid you will have to accent other areas and like the above person said, keep them clean and unclutteredHelpful Reply

Lavende on Apr 16, 2014Could you build a new surface over the existing one, that can be taken off when you move? Like a chopping block countertop that is just large enough to cover the existing surface and lip, maybe held in place with backsplash that is attached to the wall? Trying to think out of the box...Helpful Reply

Miss Pooslie on Apr 16, 2014I think @Lavende has the right vein of idea--building something over them that is removable instead of painting directly on them. you could even do just like thin MDF overlay (since it doesn't have to be permanent) or do ceramic tile backer-board just lays on top with tiles laid and grouted onto itHelpful Reply

Mitziblueyes on Apr 18, 2014I bought some shelf paper that looks like granite last night! I'm about to redo my bath and can't decide on color schemes. Goal-apply the paper to top and work around to see if I like it before investing into different methods!Helpful Reply

Wahoo on Apr 18, 2014I think Wendy's got a good idea. Unless the counters are straight then you can buy some counters from Home Depot that would sit on top and have a lip to cover the front. Maybe a temporary tin backsplash to drawn attention away? It's easily removed when you leave. I'm a landlord and I've had tenants make design requests that I let them do, so you could ask, if you wanted to put some money into it (just a little!).Helpful Reply

Donna Keeling on Feb 07, 2015I used contact paper on a counter top years ago and it held up for years. Granted they don't make the designs like they used to but I have seen some nice ones that I think you would like. When it comes time to move you peel it off, might have to use some goo gone to get any sticky residue off but it sure beats living with ugly!Helpful Reply

Kim Nall on Feb 07, 2015Forget your deposit and paint and decorate your apartment the way you want. You may lose your deposit, but you will enjoy your living space more while you are there.Helpful Reply

Lela on Feb 22, 2015@Jane , talk to your landlord. If you're going to be there for a long time, maybe you can work out something & do alittle updating at your expense. If it's subtle, it might not be a problem and you'll get your deposit back when you leaveHelpful Reply
