Looking For Specific Blackberry Plant

Lavende on Apr 16, 2014Is it a primocane blackberry you're looking for? If so, this one may be similar (or another name for the same?) to your Rueben: http://www.starkbros.com/products/berry-plants/blackberry-plants/prime-ark-45-primocane-blackberryHelpful Reply

Lavende on Apr 16, 2014Just verified, looks like it is indeed the same plant. In the US its called Prime Ark (R), marketed in the UK under the Reuben name, after the creater's middle name. Interesting! http://bumperscollege.uark.edu/vision_test/4745.htmHelpful Reply

Jeanette S on Apr 17, 2014Douglas, I love blackberries, but don't want to go out in the woods to pick them. Is this plant easy to manage or does it go crazy and take over? I would love to make some BB preserves...I like mine with the seeds left in! (Yes, it is a childhood thing...that's the way Mom and Grandmother made it!)Helpful Reply

Leah Bening on Apr 17, 2014Thank you everyone!! This Rueben has been developed at the Univ. of AR so the US name makes sense! I will search it later today when I have more time. I'm so excited to find it. It seems to be a double bloomer, very large, sweet berries and fruits the first year. It is a primoicane! So it will take up less room and provides about 8 lbs. of berries per plant after it's established. Is all this possible? We shall see! Thank you Lavende, Douglas and Jeanettte.Helpful Reply
