Jeanette S on Apr 17, 2014I don't think anything much deters deer. I have found however, that the deer around here prefer the red and purple petunias, won't touch the white ones. She might want to try planting white and light colored flowers. I don't know if planting garlic in her flowerbeds will help or not...but would be worth a try.Helpful Reply

Janet Bergner on Apr 17, 2014My sister and parents live in a national forest. They have deer, bear and other wild animals in the yard all the time. Controlling deer takes a multi-prong defense. The best product to purchase is a product called Hinder...you mix it with water and spray it on the plants you don't want them to eat. The orchard near my parents uses a product from a waste water plant in buckets placed under the trees. Deer don't like daffodils so they are perfect for spring flowers. There are other flowers that deer don't like so go to the local nursery. If you discourage them with plants they don't like it does help. I have also heard that some orchards use Irish Spring bars of soap placed among the plants. Good luck but hinder is your best bet.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Apr 18, 2014There is only one fool-proof way to prevent deer: a tall fence. Repellents work only until deer become acclimated to them.Helpful Reply

Leona on Apr 21, 2014We finally bought 'Deer Away' from Lowes's that worked, but was very expensive, after using hair, strong soap and anything else we had heard of. When I checked the ingredients, it was mainly, especially by the smell, cloves and cinnamon. I made a cloth bag of whole cloves and they didn't come back.Helpful Reply
