Found this growing in my new yard and was wondering if it is supposed to be a weed? It is really pretty...I hate to pull it up.

I don't know what it is but one person's weed is another person's flower so if you like it, keep it. I think it's beautiful too & I'd absolutely leave it be.

Its not lambs ear. I came across this same type plant the other day growing wild by the road side only difference was the flowers look just like wisteria they are considered a weed but I wanted it for my yard I dug it up and brought it to my yard it died immediately even though I took great care with it. They are beautiful I am in South GA.

Like others have said it is a Lupine-my guess would be Lupinus villosus. Here is a link that might be useful: http://hawthornhillwildflowers.blogspot.com/2012/11/lady-lupine-lupinus-villosus.html

It's an ornamental mullein. Verbascum is the hybrid name. The leaves give it away. http://utgardens.tennessee.edu/pom/verbascum.htm

it looks to me like salvia divinorum, a hallucenogenic plant that is sold in smoke shops and legally bought by anyone over the age of 18. try it some time.. and maybe ull have a different opinion about marijuana!

I believe @Rhonda Brady is correct that this is a Florida native lupine. I have spent all-too-much time on the Hawthorn Hill site. It is an excellent source for Florida natives. You should treasure the fact that you have it growing in your yard.

It"s beautiful! It stumped me because the color and leaves are very different from the CA lupines. I wonder if it would grow here? It'd look great in my cottage garden!

Thanks all!!! I am going to have to figure a way to protect it from the mower as it is right in the mow path!!! Maybe a small flower bed....any excuse for a new bed!!!

Yep, if it is Lambs Ear, it will grow and grow and grow, the plant just keeps on giving. Great for a border or a nice looking clump. I planted a bunch of little clumps and this year I have to divide each one x 5 plants/clump. I just use a shovel and cut out a section. Those tall flowers will fade and you can just cut them back to make it look nicer. You can dig the whole plant up if you don't want it there and replant it. Doesn't require much more than a little water and a little soil. I could be wrong though.
