When do crepe myrtle make seed pods?

There's a crepe myrtle about 25-30 feet tall by our patio. It started dropping seed pods a couple days ago but hasn't flowered. Is this right? I thought seed after bloom was the rule of thumb in nature.

Yes that is the progression. Flowers, then seed pods. If you look though you will see that those pods have been up there in the tree along and are just now making their way off of the tree.

Thanks. I hadn't considered they may be holdovers from last season. As of last night, I don't think more fell.

Yep. These must be "cling-ons" from last fall when they didn't.

They fall off after the blooms have finished. These trees bloom all summer and they tend to stop in the fall. When the blossoms all dry out the seed pods will begin to fall. If there are any falling in the spring they may be left from last years blooms.

Thanks. I guess that's what it is.
