Ideas on refinishing this old dresser?

Hi, I got this freebie today off a local craigslist...any suggestion on how to renovate it? It looks old, and possibly maple. There is a large sliver off the right drawer missing, and has some minor damage on top where the previous owned screwed the mirror to the back of the piece, but overall in decent shape... Please help with ideas, I am thinking of keeping it. All my other furniture is stained wood, no painted pieces.

Not everything has to be painted as is the trend today. If it's maple, I wouldn't paint it. I'd take the mirror off, sand all, stain back to original wood color, change fixtures, and I love mirrors on a dresser. Fix the mirror up and reattach the way it should be. Sounds like a glorious find to me. Have fun with it.

Well, if you want to use it for a dresser I would go with Cathey DeRosas idea,, but I can see this making a great dining room sideboard, Remove the drawers, add a shelf in their place & a few baskets, great storage piece. Could drape ivy over the mirror, add a nice scarf to the top & a few candles, a picture, etc.... You wanna give this to me,right?? lol... Have fun with it, its your baby now, dress her any way ya wanna! Please post your finished product & tag us all in it! :)
