What could be done with these doors?

Lori J on Apr 22, 2014I pinned a bathroom remodel idea that used an old french door as the outside wall of a walk-in shower. Found the idea intriguing as our bathroom is very small and the only window above a useless (really useless) tub. Used another door as the back to my potting shed. Have seen them used for headboards. Frenchies hung parallel to the ground make interesting photo displays.Helpful Reply

Moxie on Apr 22, 2014I wish I lived closer...I would come get them!! You could sell them on Craig's list; I would build a greenhouse with them or use them in creative decor. You would be surprised how many people would want doors.Helpful Reply

Stephanie Volkert on Apr 22, 2014A bit more info: These aren't French doors. These are very heavy, very tall business-type doors. I had thought about using them to build a greenhouse, also using them to make a big doghouse. They're just soooo heavy though, it would take two strong men to move one.Helpful Reply

Miss M on Apr 23, 2014I have a greenhouse made from old windows. I think that one made from these old doors would be even better. You could also get some glass paint and create a work of art to go outside in your gardens. I have done this with windows as well. I would LOVE to get my hands on a couple of these.Helpful Reply

Jan P on Apr 23, 2014I have used mine for Trellis in my flower garden. I removed glass & drilled holes for re-bar on bottom to insert in ground. Currently have Clematis planted in front , which can intertwine between the empty window opening.Helpful Reply

Heather McManaway on Apr 23, 2014@Stephanie Volkert I just took a Old Door and after I took the hardware off and stained it I spent $17 at Lowe's on one track Closet/Screen sliding door kit. I set the track along the wall and hung the door "Barn Door" style. Just a Idea for you!Helpful Reply

Valerie on Apr 23, 2014I am fascinated by the projects made by fellow Hometalk contributors, especially when using old windows, doors and shutters. I have put together a whole lot of clips - have a look at my board 'Old doors, windows and shutters' for some great ideas (unfortunately none of them are mine!)Helpful Reply

JL Stanley on Apr 23, 2014if I had access to one I would definitely take whatever part of it (half or 3/4) whatever and make a pretty table ~ I WOULD have to paint it a bright color in the room I am doing so it would not fade into the other items in the room :D ...then place a piece of glass on that.! Some people have more space than others!! I would LOVE to have space for a full door with glass on the top and if possible some space between the glass and bottom of the door to place small collectables! Wishing you the best of luck!Helpful Reply

Carole on Apr 24, 2014I have seen old doors used on Hometalk to form garden arbours, small greenhouses, trellis for plants, hung from ceiling with lights or for hanging pots/pans, used on decks to hang plants from when suspended, used for fencing (depends what wood they are and what you treat or paint it with as to how well they will hold up if used outside and exposed to the elements). Then there is of course the idea of table tops (add glass or Perspex) so you can see a display beneath them, bed head boards, light boxes, photo display, room dividers - join three or more together with hinges - cupboard doors - you might need to cut them down - they could be used as new doors for kitchen cupboard? So many things you could do with these apart from using as frames for photos or pictures. Hope this gives you some ideas.Helpful Reply
