Forsythia bushes

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Apr 23, 2014I would not worry. Sometimes this happens if the pruning is not done just right for spring flowering shrubs and flowers-do not wait for die back of flowers next time just after they flower and begin to fall off-prune. Did you have a dry winter? I find that sometimes with many plants that flower if there is a dry winter they blooms are not as "outstanding". This year the dogwoods, Redbuds, and even forsythia blooms were absolutely stunning and we had a wet but cold winter. Happy gardening!Helpful Reply

Julie Johnson on Apr 24, 2014Forsythia blooms on old wood, so if it is pruned too late, there will be no blooms the following year. You should be good to go next spring.Helpful Reply

Kathleen on Apr 24, 2014They need to be pruned soon after blooming, as Julie Johnson says above. Azaleas are the same.Helpful Reply
