Olivia's Blankets: Crafting for a Cause

Sissy J
by Sissy J
Olivia's Blankets, in memory of my niece Olivia who was stillborn, is a project to support parents who have lost babies. I take receiving blankets, divide them in half, reconnect them with ribbon, & then they are packaged & distributed to labor & delivery floors of local hospitals with Sawyer's Heart memory boxes. Parents can leave one half of the blanket with their angel baby & can take one home.
I use Vistaprint to print postcards that go with each blanket.
So far 153 blankets (& counting) have been donated. The project began in 2014.

What a wonderful thing to do. Have others stepped in to help you with this great cause ? I would love to help but am too far away.

It’s a few years later & the project is still going! And many others have jumped in to help, both here at events my sis in law has organized (with local news coverage) & many, many people around the U.S. have used the updated instructions on the web www.lovesissy.com/olivia to make & donate blankets to their area hospitals. One very, very strong mama emailed us—she lost her son just before her baby shower. She received one of Olivia’s Blankets in the hospital & she decided to proceed with her baby shower, but asked guests to bring blankets. They sat together & made blankets for other mothers/families in honor of her sweet baby boy. I will never forget her story. ❤️

Sissy thank you for taking time to explain all this. It is so good that your project is ongoing. Thanks for sharing about that wonderful brave Mama. She has a heart of gold and it brought a lump to my throat. I shall have a look at website. Thank you :)
